Explosion Proof High Bay Lighting

High bay lights are normally used for ceiling more than 20 feet, low bay lights are normally used for ceiling lower than 20 feet, anyway, this is a simple way to distinguish high bay and low bay, the exact ceiling height will be depended on the requested and actual lumens on the lighting areas. Moreover, high bay light have a built-in deep reflector to distribute the light down from a high ceiling, low bay light have normal reflector and lens to distribute the light down from a low ceiling.

Class 1 definition come from the hazardous area classifications of NEC500 standard which classifies flammable substances into fours types, “M” for methane under mine, “class 1” for hazardous gas and vapor, “class 2” for hazardous dust and “class 3” for hazardous fiber, thus class 1 light fitting is explosion proof lighting specially used for hazardous locations which hazardous gas and vapor present normally and abnormally, but class 1 light fittings have two types, class 1 div 1 light fitting and class 1 div 2 light fitting. If the hazardous gas and vapor produce normally in the environment, you need to use class 1 div 1 light fitting, if the hazardous gas and vapor produce abnormally in the environment, you need to use class 1 div 2 light fitting.

The weight of pendant light depends on types and wattages, in most case, lower than 10 pounds for commercial pendant light, around 10 to 20 pounds for industrial pendant light, about 20 up to 60 pounds for explosion proof pendant light. As for the wattages, the enclosure will be bigger and heavier size when the wattage is higher for the same type of pendant light.
